Traditional crafts, furniture, sake, regional cuisine—Japan has many "authentic" products that are truly appreciated overseas. I myself have seen many buyers and consumers in Taiwan and other parts of Asia whose eyes light up when they see Japanese regional products.
On the other hand, many of the manufacturers and local government officials we've supported initially say things like, "We don't know how to get our products overseas," or "It's too difficult for us." We've worked with furniture manufacturers in Asahikawa, wineries in Hokkaido, and local governments on their overseas strategies.
